	The segment rings are also popular in large guages as they are used not only for stretched ear lobes, nipple or even stretched belly button piercings, but also for genital piercing like the prince albert. The cool thing with segment rings is that the closure finishes the ring as a full ring, so you are not obliged to show a ball as a closure for the ring, as they also do tend to get in the way for genital piercings. To open and close a segment ring, hold the ring, and turn around the closure 180 degree, then apply a side pressure on the closure compared to the ring. As you go up in thickness, the ring will be that bit harder to open and close. To help in this operation, you can use ring opening pliers, but make sure you do not mark the ring on the inside as you exert the pressure on the plier. Go slowly, and if needed, protect the ring by putting either soft cloth on the plier, or even rubber or soft tape.
